DOHA, QATAR – A shadow of profound sorrow has fallen over the Qatari diplomatic mission following a tragic traffic accident near the Egyptian resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh, which claimed the lives of three high-ranking members of the Amiri Diwan (Office of the Emir).

Two other officials were injured in the devastating crash, which occurred as the delegation was traveling to attend a crucial international summit on the Gaza ceasefire and future peace efforts.

The Qatari Embassy in Cairo confirmed the fatalities and injuries late yesterday, identifying the deceased as officials from the Amiri Diwan, and members of the protocol team.

The embassy expressed its deepest grief over the tragic loss, confirming that arrangements are underway, in coordination with Egyptian authorities, for the immediate repatriation of the deceased and the injured back to Doha on a dedicated Qatari flight.

Loss Ahead of Critical Peace Summit
The accident occurred approximately 50 kilometers from Sharm El-Sheikh, a location currently at the heart of intensive diplomatic activity.

The delegation was en route to preparations for the high-level international peace summit scheduled to convene in the city, an event co-chaired by Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi and a key international partner.

Qatar, alongside Egypt and the United States, has been instrumental in months of complex, high-stakes negotiations that led to the recent, vital ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. The presence of the Qatari protocol team underscores the State of Qatar’s central and tireless commitment to mediating peace and stability in the region.

The Qatari Embassy statement referred to the incident as a “tragic traffic accident,” with preliminary reports from Egyptian security sources suggesting the vehicle overturned after a mechanical failure, such as a tire burst or loss of steering control. The two injured officials are currently receiving necessary medical treatment at Sharm El-Sheikh International Hospital.

Condolences have poured in from across the Gulf and the wider Arab world, with neighboring states expressing their solidarity with Qatar and the families of the bereaved.

The tragic passing of these dedicated officials, who were fulfilling their national duty in service of regional peace, has been met with national grief, serving as a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made in the pursuit of diplomatic breakthroughs.

The nation stands united in offering prayers for the souls of the deceased and a swift recovery for the injured.
