YENEGOA, Nigeria – All is now set for the two day capacity building workshop for practicing journalists in Bayelsa scheduled to hold Monday and Tuesday at the Top Rank Hotel in Yenagoa.




Organised by‎ the Bayelsa State Ministry of Information and Orientation‎, the workshop will be declared open by the Deputy Governor of the State, Retired Rear Admiral John Jonah (retd), by 9’o clock in the morning‎.

The workshop which is the first in the series w‎ill help change the way the state is being reported and give the participants a clearer understanding of objectively telling the story of the new Bayelsa under Governor Seriake Dickson.

Already the resource persons led by‎ Ralph Akinfeleye, a professor of communication and Dr. Ntiense Usuaa of the University of Port Harcourt are in Yenagoa ahead of the event.

The workshop which has as its theme‎: “The Role of the media in a state, changing the narrative of Bayelsa‎”, will cover journalists from the public and private media organizations in both print and electronic media.

A statement issued by the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, to confirm the availability of the resource persons and the level of preparations, said‎ the workshop would seek to highlight the importance of changing the narrative of the state through objective and decent reports.

According to him, the event would ‎ assist to improve the skills of the journalists, enable them to learn new ways of how to ply their trade in the ever changing and dynamic journalism industry and urged them to take advantage of the opportunity.
