LAGOS, Nigeria – Presidential candidate of Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi has condemned individuals who are masquerading as Obidients and insulting prominent Nigerians so as to damage the reputation he has built over the years.
Peter Obi reacted, following condemnatory comments which greeted the decision of General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye to invoke the name of God to ensure that the President elect, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu fixes the problems bedeviling Nigeria as a country.
Adeboye, represented by his Special Assistant, Pastor Dele Balogun, spoke at the monthly Thanksgiving service at the RCCG Headquarters in Ebute-Metta.
He beseeched god this way: “Let us pray for the incoming government that God will support it and give it the Grace to do the right thing. Thank God the president-elect has promised to fix Nigeria. If God helps him, Nigeria will prosper in his hands”. This prayer had drawn criticism from Nigerians, especially some doing it in the name of Obidients.
But Peter Obi believes those doing it are not genuine members of the Obidient family but those who claim to be but working for those against the movement.
He described the criticism directed at Adeboye as unacceptable, adding that Obidients are by and large law abiding citizens and not delinquents.
“The use of subterfuge by people masquerading as Obidients to abuse and insult eminent personalities like Most Reverend Pastor Enoch Adeboye or anyone else is most unacceptable. Obidients are by and large, law-abiding citizens”, he said.
