LAGOS — Outrage has greeted a viral video showing popular Nollywood actress Pamela Okoye involved in a physical confrontation with a male movie producer on set.
The leaked footage, which has sparked heated debates across social media platforms, captures a heated exchange between the duo that quickly escalated into physical violence.
In the video clip currently making the rounds online, the male producer can be seen grabbing the actress around her neck and pinning her down on a chair in a tight chokehold.
Disregarding the fact that the movie star is a female, the enraged producer held on tightly while shouting threats at her, saying, “I will strangle you to death!”
The actress, seen struggling beneath his grip to free herself, fired back in Pidgin English, yelling, “You dey mad?” before crew members scrambled to intervene and separate the pair.
While the precise cause of the altercations remains unconfirmed, preliminary details surrounding the footage suggest that the actress may have physically struck the producer during an argument, triggering the violent retaliatory assault.
Neither Pamela Okoye nor the production outfit has released an official statement regarding the incident.
The incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding professional conduct, conflict resolution, and personal safety on movie sets within Nigeria’s multi-billion naira film industry.
Pamela Okoye, an accounting graduate turned actress and filmmaker, has grown to become a notable face in Nollywood. Having produced several independent projects and starred in various mainstream productions, her rapid rise in the industry has earned her a steady fanbase.
The violent nature of the brawl has reignited public criticism over working conditions and actor protection across West African entertainment productions.
Stakeholders and film enthusiasts have repeatedly called on industry guild leaders—including the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN)—to enforce stricter workplace guidelines to prevent set-side violence and ensure a secure environment for cast and crew members alike.
