ONITSHA, Anambra, Nigeria – A middle age man was on Sunday crushed to death by an unknown tipper driver in Onitsha, Anambra state. The truck which is painted blue, a MAN Disel truck has no registration number .
According to eyewitnesses, the truck driver took one way and eventually crushed a male adult who was crossing the express way after alighting from a Tricycle.
The Ag. Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corp FRSC, Anambra state Command, Mr. Musa Kamal, while confirming the incident, said the crash involved a total of three male adults including the crushed victim who was rushed to Toronto hospital Onitsha, by men of the Nigeria Police Force.
The policemen took charge before the arrival of FRSC rescue team from Upper Iweka Outpost.
Kamal told our correspondent that the accident happened at about 1140hrs and the corpse of the victim has been deposited at the Morgue in the same hospital after Doctor’s confirmation.
Meanwhile the State Sector Commander Federal Road Safety Corps Anambra State, Mr. Andrew Kumapayi, while sending his condolences to the deceased family warned motorists especially truck drivers to desist from route violation (one way Driving) as the Corps will not take it lightly with any one caught Driving one way.
He also admonished pedestrians to always use pedestrian bridges where available and observe traffic drills before crossing the road adding that the current crash involving the middle aged man was avoidable.
