One Killed, Several Injured as Boat Explodes in Lagos

August 17, 2014 – At least one person was killed and several others injured when a passenger boat exploded on Friday in Lagos.

The boat which was one the fleet belonging to Aquitien Oil and Gas took off from V-Crafty Jetty, Lekki Phase 1 but exploded while trying to refill gasoline at Capital Oil Jetty, Victoria Island, Lagos.

According to Public Relations officer of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, a relative of Emmanuel Omu one of those on board by name Sunday Ezugha called the agency to narrate that the owner of the boat could not be reached after the incident.

He told our correspondent that those injured when the boat exploded are presently receiving medical attention in hospitals in Lagos State.

He said the corpse of Emmanuel Omu, which was declared missing and thought to be among those receiving treatment in hospitals has been recovered from scene of the explosion.

It is not clear if relative of Omu have buried the corpse. We called Mr. Sunday Ezugha for latest on the development but he was not available for comment.
