January 16, 2016 – At least one person has been confirmed dead and another injured in Alausa, Ikeja when a suction truck with registration numbers GGE 691 approaching Ikeja from Alausa lost control and collided with two other vehicles.
The truck according to officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority(LASEMA) allegedly failed break and collided with a Mercedes Benz 4matic with registration number FST 161BZ and a Land Rover Jeep with registration number EKY 93DV.
Speaking on the incident, General Manager, LASEMA, Mr. Michael Akindele said the driver of the truck identified as Maraino died on the spot while his attendant, better known as motorboy fractured his leg and was taken to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, (LASUTH) for medical attention.
“A suction truck with registration no GGE 691 moving inward Ikeja along Obafemi Awolowo Way opposite the Lagos State Secretariat Complex lost control due to alleged break failure, and skidded to the other lane of secretariat entrance which collided with Mercedes Benze 4matic with registration no FST 161BZ and another jeep Land Rover with registration no EKY93 DV at about 10:34 am on Saturday 16th January,2016.
“The driver of the suction truck identified as Muraino died on the spot, while the motor boy, an adult male had fracture of the leg and was immediately taken to Lasuth by LASAMBUS.
“The drivers of the two other vehicles escaped unhurt’’, he said.
The LASEMA boss advised drivers to carry out proper check on their vehicles and also adhere to safety rules and regulations to avoid unnecessary loss of lives and properties.
Those that assisted in the rescue operation includes LASEMA Lagos State Fire Service s, LASTMA LASAMBUS, Police officers from Alausa division and members of the Nigerian Security Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
