JORDAN taught Iraq a footballing lesson last night as they stormed into the semi-finals of the FIFA Arab Cup—all under the glittering lights of Qatar’s “Diamond in the Desert.”

In a clash that sizzled with as much intensity as the Al Rayyan heat, the Chivalrous Ones proved they are the smartest kids in class at the stunning Education City Stadium.

While the venue is world-renowned for its high-tech cooling and shimmering triangular façade, it was Jordan who kept their cool when it mattered most.

The breakthrough came just before the break in the 41st minute. Iraq’s Mustafa Saadoon was the villain of the piece, adjudged to have handled the ball in the box after a VAR check that had the 40,000-strong crowd holding its collective breath.

Up stepped Ali Olwan, who showed nerves of absolute steel to slot his penalty home, sending the Jordanian fans into a state of pure delirium.

The Lions of Mesopotamia roared and rattled the cages in the second half, but the Jordanian defense turned the Education City turf into a fortress. Despite wave after wave of Iraqi pressure, the scoreline remained as stubborn as a university exam.

The victory means Jordan maintains a perfect 100% record in the tournament, proving that they are the team to beat as the competition reaches its business end.

As the sun set over the stadium’s iconic tessellated roof, the lights didn’t just reflect off the building—they reflected off the faces of a Jordan side that now looks destined for glory.

Next up for the Chivalrous Ones? A mouth-watering semi-final showdown against Saudi Arabia. On this evidence, they won’t be afraid of anyone.
