JEDDAH – The Organisation of Islamic Operation, OIC has condemned plans by the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Israeli-led government to transfer oversight of the Ibrahimi Mosque from Palestinian Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs, as well as the Hebron Municipality, to the “Jewish Religious Council” in the Kiryat Arba settlement.
These transfers, the OIC said are noting but a blatant violation of international resolutions, including those issued by the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, UNESCO.
The OIC expressed concern about the seriousness of these illegal measures, which it said reflects the Israeli occupation’s attempts to alter the historical, legal, and religious status of Islamic holy sites in the occupied Palestinian territory.
“This also includes efforts to impose purported Israeli sovereignty over Palestinian land”.
The OIC stated that all Israeli decisions and actions in the occupied Palestinian territory are illegal and invalid under international law.
Furthermore, the OIC urged the international community, the United Nations, and UNESCO to fulfill their responsibilities.
It called for necessary actions to protect the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron from Israeli violations and attacks, and to ensure respect for the sanctity of holy sites as well as freedom of worship and access to them.
