October 29, 2015 – The Lagos State Government has said that the monthly environmental sanitation will hold on Saturday, October 31, 2015.

“Expectedly, there will be restriction of human and vehicular activities. Speaking on the development, Commissioner for the Environment, Dr. Babatunde Adejare called on residents to turn out en-masse and participate actively in the exercise by cleaning their gutters, drains and drainages.

He said that the period is meant for serious cleaning and active environmental sanitation exercise and not for any social engagement or playing of football.

The Commissioner implored residents to desist from dumping waste arbitrarily into the drainage channels and other acts that may result in environmental degradation.

While re-assuring the people of Lagos about the determination and commitment of the State Government to attain a sustainable environment, the Commissioner further advised Lagosians to key into the Governor’s vision of a cleaner Lagos by abstaining from bad environmental habits such as open defecation and urination and littering of the highways and roads etc.

He warned interstate bus operators, luxurious bus operators, transport owners and road transport workers to comply with the restriction order on human and vehicular movement between 7.00am-10.00am, warning that any vehicle caught violating this order will be apprehended and prosecuted, while passengers in such vehicles will also be prosecuted according to the State Environmental Sanitation Laws.

He said that officials of the Nigerian Police Force, LASTMA and KAI have been fully mobilized to enforce the restriction order on vehicular movement, emphasizing that any violators will also be prosecuted according to the State Environmental Sanitation Laws.

He called on the people of the State to support and co-operate with the administration of Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode to deliver a progressive and economically viable state.
