Residents of Alagbole, Akute and those passing through the area to their place of residence in Ogun State are currently going through horrible hardship on a daily basis.

They have been cut off courtesy a recent fire outbreak which ravaged Oando filling station in the area coupled with ongoing construction of a new bridge in the area.

Sources told our reporters that the heavy downpour which occurred in Lagos and surrounding states a week back lead to flood which forced premium motor spirits(PMS) in underground tank to come up to the surface of surrounding water.

A rickety vehicle passing through the road was said to have ignited the fire which completely burnt down the petrol station.

We gathered that the Ogun State Government, acting on safety of the residents ordered the construction workers to block off the road, leaving a small alley for commuters to pass on foot.

The development has forced motorists to divert to Denro road, which is the worst road in the area to Akute before making a detour to Alagbole, and in the process engendering a daily deluge of traffic in the area. We gathered that some who are not able to take Denro road are either forced to pass through Ogba and connect the area via Iju or leave their vehicles at home; while others simply abandoned their vehicles just by the closed bridge.

When our correspondent visited the area, the Yakoyo end of the bridge has been converted into a mini garage by motorcyclists and commercial buses who now drop passengers in the area who will now cross on foot to the other end of the bridge before boarding a car or motorcycle to their destination.

“It is terrible, we have been going through this terrible hardship in the past one week. We are forced to trekk after getting here to our home. Only God knows when the road will be open, most especially when the bridge is just about 5 percent completed”, Magnus Ezeh told our correspondents.

He appealed to the Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun to open the road so as to save residents of the area from further hardship.
