ABUJA, Nigeria – The Northern Elders Forum today declared that the group in consonant with the geopolitical regions in the north will support a candidate with integrity and compassion to provide solution to the multidimensional problems facing the north and will mobilize the north for that purpose.

The elders forum made this resolution in a document titled  ‘Abuja Declaration’, wherein the elders forum made it very clear that they commit to one indivisible Nigerian, ready to support any candidate out of the 18 that emerged victorious in the February 25 general election irrespective of where the person comes from.

The Northern Elders, made up of northerners, who are 50 years and above said they will elect leaders who are sensitive to the needs of Northern Nigeria.

In the Abuja declaration, which was read in the presence of representatives of the leading presidential candidates, the Northern Elders Forum  said the body will resist any attempt to subvert Nigeria’s democracy by antidemocratic forces.

The group which said it is unsatisfied  with development in the region and pledge to unite and project a common  front for the development of the region.

It pledged to collaborate with other Nigerians to create a united Nigeria, characterized by diversity, respect for justice, respect for right and dignity of every person.

It said it will seek to discourage adoption of any candidate on the basis of ethnicity;  engage the  rest of Nigerians as respected people and demand that the rights of northerners will not be abused and sacrificed by the government, the Northern Elders chose to support.
