OWERRI, Imo, Nigeria – The Nigeria Labour Congress NLC has mobilized workers in Nigeria to commence strike immediately if at the end of today, the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma fails to release President of the union, Comrade Joe Ajaero, whom he has abducted.

In a statement, NLC narrated how thugs and policemen led by Special Assistant to the governor on Special Duties, Chinasa Nwaneri abducted the NLC President and whisked him to unknown destination.

The NLC said the thugs unleashed mayhem at the NLC secretariat, matcheting many, stealing handsets and laptops before taking Ajaero away.

The NLC said the police supervised the beating and brutalization of the NLC president, breaking his head before bundling him away.

“We want to put the Nigerian government on notice that we want the President of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC immediately released. The injuries metted to him must be treated and his freedom to lead Nigerian workers on a peaceful protest guaranteed”, the NLC said.
