April 2, 2015 – Christian Association of Nigerian-Americans (CANAN), has congratulated President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari for winning the Presidential election held last Saturday.
The group equally congratulated President Goodluck Jonathan for his statemanly conduct in conceding defeat before results were totally announced.
“In a similar vein, we congratulate out-going President Goodluck Jonathan for his statesmanship conduct by conceding defeat to the incoming President Buhari. That action by Dr. Jonathan deserves the praise of all people of goodwill, and has secured the smooth transition of power in the next couple months”, the group said.
In a statement, Executive Director of the group, Pastor Laolu Akande said it is delighted that the elections ended peacefully.
“We congratulate the President-elect, General Mohamodu Buhari and the Vice President-elect, Pastor Yemi Osinbajo. CANAN is confident that the duo will take the mandate of the Nigerian people with a sense of responsibility and fear of God.
“The Buhari-Osinbajo ticket campaigned and won on the platform of change. We pray that the change would be delivered by the grace of God. We commend General Buhari and Pastor Osinbajo for their determination, resolve and exemplary characters which has now been validated by Nigerians”, the group said.
The group however said the determination of the team will be surely tested by the enormous challenges ahead of the incoming administration adding that the duo have their prayers, support and good wishes.
“Finally, we congratulate Nigeria and Nigerians, knowing fully well that the destiny God has in mind for Nigeria would soon become manifest and restored. We call on all Nigerians, of all faiths and ethnicity to come together and turn the nation’s diversity into a huge strength”, he said.
