IKEJA, Lagos – The Nigeria Police Force(NPF), has said that it will not obey a Federal High Court judgement on the Nigeria Peace Corps ordering the police to unseal its premises because it has appealed the judgement.

On November 9, 2017, Justice Gabriel Kolawole ordered the police to unseal the corporate head office of the corps in Abuja. He also ordered the police to pay the corps N12 million as damages for infringing on its rights to own property and for freedom of movement.

However, the Peace Corps early this week filled a contempt of court proceding, seeking to commit the IGP, Ibrahim Idris to jail.

Mr Dickson Akoh and 49 others said at a press conference that it has secured 7 different judgments from different courts, all barring the police from arresting detaining, harassing or intimidating our officers in the course of their lawful duties.

But speaking on Raypower (Political Platform), Force Public Relations Officer, Mr. Jimoh Moshood said that the police failed to obey the order because it has filled an appeal, adding that parties will have to wait for conclusion of the court processes.

It is not clear if the police had filled and obtained stay of execution. But said the NPF remains a very law abiding organisation hence the IGP appeared before the senate when he was summoned since nobody is above the law.
