HOLLYWOOD – Oscar-winner Nicole Kidman and country superstar Keith Urban have sensationally separated after nearly two decades of what was thought to be one of showbiz’s most solid marriages, The Sun can exclusively reveal.
The shock split was confirmed by sources close to the couple yesterday, just months after they celebrated their 19th wedding anniversary.
Insiders claim the pair, who share two daughters, have been living separate lives “since the beginning of summer,” with 57-year-old Urban reportedly moving out of their shared Nashville family home into a new solo residence.
The news has sent shockwaves through Tinseltown and Music City alike, but sources insist the heartbreak is one-sided, with actress Kidman, 58, said to be “devastated” and fighting to save the relationship.
A pal revealed: “Nicole did not want this. She has been fighting to save the marriage.”
The strain on the ‘Golden Couple’ has reportedly been growing for months due to their demanding work schedules, which saw them on opposite sides of the Atlantic.
Kidman has spent a considerable amount of time in London filming the Practical Magic 2 sequel, and was famously spotted setting up camp in Boy George’s luxurious north London mansion, paying a reported £70,000 a month for the privilege – without her husband by her side.
Meanwhile, Urban has been jetting around the US and Canada for his ‘High and Alive’ World Tour.
”Keith never sees Nicole—either she is filming or he is on tour,” one source lamented, adding that the physical distance finally led to an emotional gulf.
The Australian-born pair married in Sydney in 2006, a year after meeting at a Hollywood gala, and have two daughters: Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14.
Reports suggest Kidman is now “holding the family together” in Nashville and leaning heavily on her family, with her sister Antonia said to be “a rock” during the difficult time.
Despite the separation, neither party has officially filed for divorce, leaving a small flicker of hope for a reconciliation—a hope which insiders say is desperately being clung to by the actress.
Nicole’s previous 11-year marriage to Tom Cruise ended in 2001.
Reps for both stars have yet to comment.
