WASHINGTON – THE US has launched a furious crackdown on travel bosses in Nicaragua, ripping up their visas for ‘knowingly facilitating’ illegal migration into America.
The Department of State announced today it is revoking visas and imposing strict new restrictions on owners, executives, and senior officials from transportation firms, travel agencies, and tour operators operating in the Central American nation.
The massive move is a direct hit at those who are allegedly profiting by helping illegal immigrants travel through Nicaragua to reach the US border.
Principal Deputy Spokesperson Thomas “Tommy” Pigott confirmed the drastic action, stating the US “will not tolerate actions that undermine its national security or immigration laws.”
Washington has pointed the finger squarely at the “Nicaraguan dictatorship’s permissive-by-design migration policies” which they claim are deliberately destabilising the region and fuelling the flow of illegal immigrants toward the United States.
It is understood US investigations show that the sanctioned entities actively helped people journey through Nicaragua, despite their ultimate plan being to enter the US illegally.
The individuals targeted are being blocked under a section of the Immigration and Nationality Act that bars entry to those whose activities could have “potentially serious adverse U.S. foreign policy consequences.”
The Department of State is making sure the travel tycoons cannot enter America, revoking all currently valid visas and imposing further travel bans.
A statement from the Office of the Spokesperson vowed the Department is “resolute in promoting accountability for those who seek to profit from illegal immigration, disrupting smuggling networks, and protecting the integrity of U.S. borders.”
The US hopes the tough new measure will slam the brakes on the human smuggling operations running through Nicaragua and dramatically cut the number of people attempting to cross the US border illegally
