ONITSHA, Anambra, Nigeria – National Directorate of Employment, (NDE) in Anambra State has recruited 50 unemployed graduates temporarily and deployed them into various corporate organisations for initial three months.

This was disclosed by the state coordinator, Special Public Works Department of NDE , Mrs. Chika Ufele during an orientation ceremony for  the Graduate Attachment Programme, (GAP) in Awka, Anambra state. According to  Ufele ,each  beneficiary will receive  a stipend of N15,000 per months for the three months  of the internship. She said after their internship programme, they might likely secure permanent jobs at their place of primary assignment or become self-employed.

“The Graduate Attachment Programme(GAP)2020 is being replicated in all the 36 states of the federation and FCT whereby a total of 1,850 jobs are being expected to be created for the unemployed graduates nationwide.

“The concept behind the formation of GAP is to address the alarming level of graduate unemployment by providing them with transient jobs. During this period, the interns are expected to gain requisite practical experience and ascertain their indispensability to the organization that may lead to possible retention at the end of the internship.

“The Special Public Works Department is one of the departments of the NDE that seek to identify and exploit employment opportunities that abound in the public works sector by organizing the skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled persons that are unemployed, to carry out utility, environmental, infrastructural development and sanitation works, ”she said.
