OTA, OGUN STATE — The executive committee and ward chairmen of the NDC in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State have passed a vote of no confidence on the Local Government Chairman, Hon. Ogunyemi Oluwafemi, removing him from his position within the party hierarchy.
The decision was reached unanimously following a joint leadership meeting held in the local government area, during which officials reviewed the recent administration and political conduct of the chairman.
According to an official communiqué issued by the executive council and ward chairmen, the vote of no confidence was triggered by three major grievances:
Financial Mismanagement and Unapproved Expenditure: The party leadership accused the chairman of executing spending decisions without executive approval or operational transparency, breaching official financial standards and party oversight protocols.
Autocratic Leadership and Disregard for Party Structures: The council cited persistent high-handedness, stating that decisions were routinely taken unilaterally without consulting the party’s established administrative organs or the 16 political wards within the local government area.
Dual-Role Burden: The leadership noted that Hon. Ogunyemi’s dual responsibilities as both the LGA Party Chairman and a candidate for the State House of Assembly created a severe conflict of interest and distracted from executive governance duties.
Speaking after the communiqué was adopted, key representatives emphasized that the political stability and structural integrity of the party within Ado-Odo/Ota—one of Ogun State’s primary commercial and industrial hubs—remains paramount, necessitating swift administrative action to maintain public trust.
As of press time, efforts to reach Hon. Ogunyemi Oluwafemi for a official response to the allegations were unsuccessful.

Ado-Odo/Ota is the second-largest local government area in Ogun State by population and serves as the economic and industrial engine of the state.
Sharing a direct border with Lagos State, it hosts major industrial zones such as Agbara and Sango-Ota, as well as high-density voter centers. Consequently, political friction within this council area carries significant political weight across Ogun West Senatorial District and the state’s broader electoral landscape.
2. Conflict of Dual Responsibilities in Local Governance
In Nigerian local government administration and political party organization, dual leadership roles—holding an executive administrative office while actively campaigning for a legislative seat—frequently cause operational friction.
Party organs often argue that running an active campaign diverts focus from administrative governance and leads to unequal distribution of party resources among candidates.

The passage of a vote of no confidence by combined LGA executives and ward chairmen is a primary constitutional mechanism utilized by political organizations in Nigeria to check executive overreach at the grassroots level. It signals a breakdown in trust between grassroots leaders (ward level) and the municipal administrative center.
