NBC gives affected 52 broadcast stations Wednesday deadline to pay up outstanding debts

52 broadcast stations get extension to pay debts

LAGOS, Nigeria –  The National Broadcasting Commission, NBC has given the 52 broadcast stations whose licenses were revoked up to Wednesday, August 23 to pay up outstanding debts, incurred for license renewal.

The revocation of the 52 broadcast stations has caused an uproar in the nation with many reading political colorations into the development.

Reacting to plea from well meaning Nigerians, the NBC in a statement by its Director General, Alhaji  Balarabe Shehu Ilelah said  affected stations that fail to defray total debt by Wednesday, August 23, 2022  are to shutdown operation by 12 am, Thursday, August 24.

“The extension is due to appeal by the affected broadcasting stations, relevant stakeholders, public spirited individuals and organisations”, the NBC said in  a statement dated August 20.

Among the affected stations are Silverbird TV, Rhythm FM,(4 stations),  Greetings FM, AIT/Raypower FM, Tao FM, Okene, Zuma FM, Suleja, Crowther FM, Abuja, We FM, Keffi, Bomay Broadcasting Service, Abuja, MITV Ibadan, Linksman FM, Keffi, Classic FM(3 stations), Beat FM Lagos and Cooper Communications, Lagos.

Others are Splash FM, Ibadan, Rock City FM, Abeokuta, Family FM, Ilugun, Space FM, Ibadan, Radio Jeremy, Effurun, Delta State,  Breeze FM, Akure,  Vibes FM, Benin, Family Love FM,  Port Harcourt, Wave FM, Port Harcourt, Kogi State Broadcasting Corporation, Kwara State Broadcasting Corporation and Niger State Broadcasting Corporations.

Still on the list are Gombe Broadcasting Corporation,  Lagos State Broadcasting Corporation, Lagos DSB, Osun State Broadcasting Corporation, Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation, Ondo Broadcasting Corporation, River State Broadcasting Corporation, Bayelsa State Broadcasting Corporation, Cross River State Broadcasting Corporation,  Imo State Broadcasting Corporation, Anambra State Broadcasting Corporation, Borno State Broadcasting Corporation, Yobe State Broadcasting Corporation, Sokoto State Broadcasting Corporation, Zamfara State Broadcasting Corporation,  Kebbi State Broadcasting Corporation,  Jigawa State Broadcasting Corporation, Kaduna State Broadcasting Corporation and  Katsina State Broadcasting Corporation.
