NATIONAL ASSEMBLY PASSES 24 BILLS IN TWO YEARS

The National Assembly in Nigeria, (the House of Representatives and the Senate) has passed a total of 24 bills since the inauguration of the 7th Assembly from 2011 till date, our investigation has revealed.

The 24 bills were passed out of a total of 310 bills which has hit the floor of the house within the same period. Topping the list is Terrorism Prevention Act 2011, which is an executive bill. Others are Money Laundering Prohibition Act 2011, Amendment Bill 2012, Appropriation Bill 2012 and the FCT Statutory Appropriation Bill 2012 sponsored by the executive.

Others are Universities Miscellaneous Provision Amendment Bill 2011, University of Uyo, 2011 Bill, Federal University, Wukari Bill, 2011,  Federal University Dutse Bill, 2011, Federal University Oye Ekiti Bill 2011, Federal University, Otuoke Bill, 2011, Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo Bill 2011, Federal University Lokoja Bill, 2011, Federal University, Kashere Bill, 2011,  Federal University, Dutsin-Ma  Bill, 2011,  Harmonised Retirement Age Bill of Federal Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Amendment Bill, 2011, Court of Appeal Amendment Act, all executive bills.

The rest are private member bills sponsored by  Senators. They include HAPERDEC Act, 2010 Amendment Bill 2011 sponsored by Sen.  Awaisu Kuta,  Retirement Age of Staff of Polytechnic and College of Education Bill, 2011 sponsored by Sen. Uche Chukwumerije, Acts Authentication  Act Amendment Bill sponsored by Sen. Paulinus Nwagu, Prison Act Repeal and Amendment Bill Sponsored by Senator Udoma Egba.

Others are National Automotive Design and Development Council Bill 2012 sponsored by Sen. Victor Udoma Egba,  Sam Sex Marriage Prohibition Bill, 2011 by Sen. Domingo Obende, Occupational Safety and Health Bill 2011 by Sen. Chris Anyanwu and Institute of Registered Safety Professional Bill 2011 sponsored by Sen. Wilson Ake.
