LAGOS, Nigeria – The Board of Trustees of the Nigerian Academy of Medicine (NAMed) has extended invitations to fresh applicants seeking to be elected into Fellowship of the Academy. This is sequel to its meeting held on  Tuesday June 29, 2021.

In a statement,  Secretary of the Academy,  Prof. Oluwole Atoyebi, said that the invitation for application is open only to interested academics, who are registered with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria and  who must be able to contribute to the objectives of the Academy as well as its Journal as contained on the website https://www.jnamed.com/ .

According to Professor Atoyebi, the fresh invitation, followed the successful Induction Ceremony of Eighty (80) Foundation Fellows under the leadership of the former Vice-Chancellor of University of Lagos, Professor Tolu Odugbemi, FAS, NNOM, FNAMed., on March 3, 2021.

The statement noted that the Induction Ceremony which held virtually because of the COVID-19 pandemic, witnessed the conferment of Honorary Fellowship of the Academy on Professor Oyewale Tomori, a former President of the Nigerian Academy of Science who delivered the Keynote address entitled, “Covid 19: From ‘Health’ To Health'”.

Atoyebi disclosed that goodwill messages were delivered by the President of the Nigerian Medical Association, Prof . Innocent Ujah, the President of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, Prof. Musa Borodo and the Vice-President of the West African College of Surgeons, Prof. Emmanuel Ezeome.

He stated that Prof. Oluwole Atoyebi in his call for fresh applications noted that the Nigerian Academy of Medicine (NAMed) was registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission on May 17, 2019, to serve as an independent, dynamic and innovative national resource of excellence and expertise in medicine, medical sciences and healthcare”.

He therefore informed prospective Fellows that they would have  to be nominated by a Foundation Fellow of the Academy, and that such nomination should also be endorsed by three other Fellows to vouch for their suitability.

He further stated that interested persons should visit the website of the Academy at https://www.named.org.ng  for the application for Fellowship which is closing July 31, 2021.
