LAGOS, Nigeria – The murder and castration of 50 year old Barrister Otike Odibi by his 47 year old wife, Barrister Udeme Odibi at Diamond Estate, Ogombo, Lagos, on Friday, 4th March, 2018, has continued to don nationwide headlines as new developments keep surfacing on the case. Recall that Barr. Otike had been stabbed multiple times until his intestines bulged out and left for dead with no immediate medical assistance just minutes after an alleged marital scuttle with his wife, who is now in police custody and receiving medical attention.
According to police findings, the case details now seem to suggest that the murder was premeditated as against the insinuations of self defense. Police Commissioner, Imohimi Edgal, while briefing pressmen today, highlighted some points to support this idea.
He stated that the suspect had purchased a fresh set of knives prior to the incident, of which the murder weapon belonged. He further made pressmen to understand that the couple had a history of marital issues bothering on extra-marital affairs, and on the day of the incident, the suspect sent a WhatsApp message to her sister-in-law, complaining about her husband and asked her to pray for them and equally ask God to forgive her.
Findings further revealed that the suspect hit her deceased husband’s head with a frying pan before descending on him in rage and stabbing his chest till his intestines were exposed. Following the act, Mrs Udeme proceeded to call her mother instead of the ambulance, and reported that she had killed her husband.
CP Edgal allayed theories of self defense as he further revealed that the deceased had earlier called his mother to report death threats made by his wife who had perfected her escape plan by buying a 5:00am Virgin atlantic ticket to the United Kingdom and packing all her certificates including her O’level results.
The suspect has reportedly confessed to the crime while the murder weapon has been recovered. Autopsy is currently being carried out at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) by a team of pathologists while forensic analysis result is being compiled and would be made public.
