VIRGINIA, United States – More democrats have continued to swirl the ranks of those calling on Governor Ralph Northam of Virginia to resign following his racist post on the social media, even as ordinary Americans hit the street calling on him to resign over the development.
Governor Ralph Northam had published on his Instagram page, a photograph featuring a man in blackface, standing with man with a KKK robe on the cover of Northam’s 1984 year book.
Northam has apologised for the photo, and admitted he once dressed up in blackface for a Michael Jackson costume, but that he wasn’t either of the two men in the picture and has refused to step down.
His hard stance had infuriated Americans, with many hitting the street for protest, just as lawmakers have stepped up the pressure on him to resign.
Among those calling for his head are Senator Tim Kaine, Senator Mark Warner, Rep Abigail Spanberger, the Democratic Party of Virginia, Virginia House Democrats and the Virginia Legislative Black Caucus.
Others are Senator Chucks Schumer, Senator Kamala Harris, Senator Cory Booker, Senator Elizabeth Warner and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand.
