SANAA/RIYADH — The security situation in the Middle East deteriorated further on Monday after the Yemeni Armed Forces launched a massive, coordinated missile and drone strike targeting King Khalid Airbase in southwestern Saudi Arabia.
According to a formal statement issued by the Yemeni Armed Forces in Sana’a, the offensive was carried out using dozens of precision ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (drones).
The strikes targeted crucial military infrastructure within the base—located in Khamis Mushait—including warplane hangars, radar systems, runways, and ammunition depots.
The Yemeni military characterized the assault as a direct response to a heavy escalation by Saudi forces. Yemeni officials claimed that Saudi F-15 and Typhoon fighter jets launched over 300 airstrikes across multiple Yemeni provinces over a five-day period, departing from the Khamis Mushait and Taif airbases.
”The operation caused significant losses at the base,” the statement read, warning that further escalation by Saudi Arabia would trigger broader and more intense retaliatory strikes deep inside Saudi territory.
“We persist in establishing the equation of siege with siege, escalation with escalation, and targeting Saudi mobilizations until the aggression stops and the siege on our country is lifted.”
The latest barrage marks one of the heaviest cross-border exchanges reported in the region in recent months, raising international concerns over humanitarian conditions and the stability of global energy markets.
Neither Saudi defense officials nor coalition leadership have issued a formal response regarding the total extent of damages at King Khalid Airbase.
