WASHINGTON – CROWN Prince Mohammed bin Salman yesterday admitted his role in the brutal murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi was a “huge mistake” as he insisted he won’t make peace with Israel yet.
The controversial Saudi leader, known as MBS, made the stunning claims at the White House during a joint press conference with US President Donald Trump.
The Prince was grilled over the 2018 assassination of Washington Post writer Khashoggi, which the CIA has previously linked directly to the Crown Prince’s orders.
MBS, 40, called the killing “painful” and a “huge mistake,” insisting his kingdom had cleaned up its act.
He told reporters: “We’ve did all the right steps of investigation… we’ve improved our system to be sure that nothing happened like that.”
He added: “And it’s painful, and it’s a huge mistake. And we are doing our best that this doesn’t happen again.”
The dramatic confession came as MBS dashed hopes of a swift peace deal with Israel.
The Saudi Royal has been under immense pressure to join the Abraham Accords, which saw the UAE and Bahrain strike historic normalization deals with the Jewish state.
But MBS insisted that any full peace treaty was conditional on Palestine getting its own state.
He said: “We want to be part of the Abraham Accords. But we want also to be sure that we secure a clear path of two-state solution.”
In a bizarre twist, the Crown Prince also lashed out at the CIA, citing “documents” that suggest Osama Bin Laden used Saudi citizens to try and ruin the relationship between Riyadh and Washington.
The claim appeared to be a swipe at the US intelligence agency, which has repeatedly linked MBS to the Khashoggi killing.
The Prince suggested that the information was part of a plot to undermine his rule.
