LAGOS, Nigeria – The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt.Hon Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa has urged his colleagues  to develop passion for the art of lawmaking.

The Lagos Assembly Speaker made this remark during opening ceremony of a 3-day retreat for the Legislators, organised by the Lagos State House of Assembly, themed “Setting Effective Legislative Agenda for the 9th Lagos State House of Assembly”

Speaking further, Rt Hon Obasa, who also doubles as Chairman, Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, reminded his colleagues of their just concluded  brain-storming forum on infrastructure development and finance of Lagos State.

He therefore urged the lawmakers to focus on how the legislature will support the executive through their different committees; noting that, “our obligation is to perform oversight functions and make quality legislations to guide the positive ideas of the Executive”.

Rt.Hon Obasa further charged his colleagues to make judicious use of this retreat which is meant to entrench them, especially the new members, with the intricacies of quality legislation and representation of their constituents.

While wishing them a rewarding and fulfilling programme, the Lagos Assembly Speaker urged the lawmakers to develop ideas that can accelerate the development and growth of Lagos State.
