KEBBI, Nigeria – GUNMEN armed with ‘sophisticated weapons’ have stormed a high school in Nigeria, kidnapping 25 female students in a terrifying pre-dawn raid.
Cops, soldiers, and vigilantes have launched a massive manhunt through the jungle after the savage snatch-bid at the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State.
The bandits scaled the school fence at around 4:00 AM on Monday before tearing the sleeping students from their beds in the hostel block.
Police tactical units stationed at the school immediately engaged the raiders in a desperate gun duel.
Despite the brave resistance, the heavily armed gang managed to escape with the 25 terrified girls to an “unknown destination.”
During the brutal raid, one man, identified as Hassan Makuku, was shot dead, and another, Ali Shehu, was injured in his right hand.
Police Public Relations Officer CSP Nafiu Abubakar Kotarkoshi confirmed the appalling incident, stating that a combined force of additional police units, military personnel, and vigilantes has been deployed.
”They are currently combing the bandits’ routes and nearby forest, with a view to rescue the abducted students and possibly arrest the perpetrators,” he said.
Kebbi State Police Commissioner CP Bello M Sani has vowed an “unwavering determination in safeguarding the lives” of residents and appealed to the public to remain calm.
The raid is the latest in a series of horrific mass kidnappings targeting schools in Nigeria, with gangs often demanding massive ransoms for the students’ safe return.
