BALMORAL, Scotland – Ms. Liz Truss has resumed as the 15th Prime Minister of Britain and 4th in six years. She assumed the role after her invitation to form government by Queen Elizabeth II.
Queen Elizabeth was full of smiles as she puts forth her hand in a very warm handshake with Liz Truss. She is the 15th British Prime Minister during the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.
Recall that Liz Truss was on Monday elected Conservative Leader after beating Rishi Sunak during the party election. She secured over 81,000 votes to beat Sunak.
She became the 4th PM in six years. Earlier, Boris Johnson formerly tendered her resignation at the Queen’s residence in Balmoral, Scotland.
The Queen is spending her traditional summer break at the Balmoral Castle, hence the appointment is taking place there. It is the second time that a PM will be so appointed in Balmoral. The first PM to be appointed in the Balmoral Castle was Robert Gascoyne-Cecil in 1885.
Earlier Boris Johnson vacated 10 Downing Street after giving his farewell speech during which he eulogized his tenure as PM, noting that his administration brought economic boom to Britain. He also expressed optimism that Liz Truss will follow up with support for Ukraine and that Putin cannot succeed in blackmailing Britain.
“I am like a booster rocket that has fulfilled its function”, he called on conservative to get behind Liz Truss and deliver on their promises. He thanked the British people for giving him opportunity to serve and defeat Covid-19.
“I will be supporting the new government and Liz Trust every step on the way”, he said.
