September 2, 2014 – The Lagos State Government today advised parents and guardians to use the extended holiday period to care for their children and take those who are sick to the nearest primary healthcare centre.

Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Olayinka Oladunjoye who made the plea in Lagos said the extension should afford all institutions whether private or public the opportunity to further ensure that the school environment is well equipped with facilities necessary for the well-being of students and teachers.

She said it is impossible for Ebola Virus disease to break out in schools stressing that, so far, the collaborative efforts of governments at all levels had brought the disease under control.
She stressed the need for all pupils and students to observe basic environmental and personal hygiene like regular hand washing with soap and water adding that the importance of cleanliness cannot be emphasized in the fight against the spread of any disease.

The Commissioner also commended the efforts of all health workers who have been involved in the treatment and management of Ebola in the state adding that they have not only stood up to be counted when there was dire need for it but they have helped in allaying fear among the citizenry.
