LAGOS, Nigeria – It was a Sunday afternoon drenched in high drama, theatrical flair, and pure footballing wizardry at Onikan’s iconic Mobolaji Johnson Arena. Under the blistering coastal sky, newly promoted underdogs Ikorodu City FC produced the most breathtaking shock of Matchday Six in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), comprehensively outplaying and slaying reigning league champions Enugu Rangers International 2-0.
With prominent dignitaries watching from the VIP gantries and thousands of roaring local fans whipping up a cauldron of noise, the stage was set for a classic David vs Goliath encounter.
Yet, when the final whistle blew, it was the starry-eyed “Oga Boys” who walked away with all three points, snapping a frustrating three-match winless skid and inflicting a first league defeat of the campaign on the visiting Flying Antelopes.

From the moment referee whistle sounded, Ikorodu City played with zero inhibition, fearlessly pressing the decorated champions high up the pitch.

Exciting winger Izuchukwu Junior collected the ball on the flank, slithered past two Rangers defenders with effortless footwork, and unleashed a razor-sharp, low strike across the turf into the bottom corner.
Okeke was left clutching at air once more, as Junior doubled the advantage to make it 2-0, effectively putting the contest beyond the reach of the reigning titleholders.
Rangers pushed frantically in the closing quarter-hour, but Atata and his backline stood firm, managing the remaining minutes with total professional maturity to seal a historic clean sheet.
In terms of overall match statistics, Ikorodu City converted their superiority into clinical efficiency. The hosts registered nine total shots throughout the ninety minutes, directing five of those strikes on target, with two successfully breaching the net.
In contrast, Enugu Rangers managed eight total attempts, but only three forced direct saves from goalkeeper Michael Atata.
The visiting champions held a slight edge in total possession with fifty-three percent of the ball compared to Ikorodu City’s forty-seven percent, yet Rangers struggled to penetrate the penalty area.
The physical intensity of the clash was reflected in the disciplinary log, with Ikorodu City committing fourteen fouls and picking up two yellow cards, while Enugu Rangers accumulated eleven fouls and received three bookings.
