    Lagos Spends N303.6m on NYSC, IDPs

    April 24, 2015 – Not less than N250,880, 000 was spent on allowance of members of the National Youth Service Corps(NYSC) in Lagos State while N52, 741, 900 was spent on Internally Displaced Persons(IDPs) in 2014, bringing the sum total to N303,261,900.

    Commissioner for Special Duties, Dr. Wale Ahmed who made the revelation at a press briefing in Lagos explained that out of the total spent on corps members,  N227, 530,000 was paid as allowance to 1, 900 members for distribution of explorer cards in 2014 while  N21, 850,000 was paid as allowance to  1,599 others in 2015 while the sum of N1.5 million was paid to 10 NYSC honour’s award recipients in October 2014.

    On money spent on IDPs, he said that N35,319,000 was given as financial assistance to affected people in 2014 while  N17,422, 900 was spent on feeding and materials for the 1,662 IDPs enumerated in 2014.

    He said that as part of its welfare programme, the ministry was able to train a total of 443 persons in 2014 which is higher than 386 people that graduated from the job opportunity centre at Igando in 2013.

    He said the centre trains people on tailoring, hat, bead and hairdo,  electrical installation, catering, metal fabrication, automobile training, soap and cosmetics production.
