December 9, 2014 – The Lagos State Government has said that it will partially close Funsho Williams/Western Avenue to vehicles going in out of the area surrounding the Teslim Balogun Stadium, where the Presidential Primaries organised by the All Progressive Congress will hold between 10th and 11th of December, 2014.
As expected Lagos is expected to be totally knocked down with traffic jam from all axis as 8,000 delegates storm state. We gathered that most of the hotels are already booked for the convention.
In a press statement in Lagos Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Kayode Opeifa said there will be partial closure to Funsho Williams/Western Avenue road from Olumegbon to National Stadium; Alhaji Masha road from Shitta Round About to Alaka and Shitta Flyover.
He said vehicles approaching Lagos Island from Surulere will be diverted at Constain to link Surulere via Erick Moore, while vehicles from Ikorodu road, Mushin, Yaba and the Mainland approaching Surulere will be diverted at Ojuelegba to link Surulere via Itire-lawanson Road or at Iponre via Bode Thomas.
He explained that vehicles approaching Agege Motor Road, Mushin and Ikorodu from Surulere will be directed to Bode Thomas, Eric Moore, Akerele, Itire-Lawanson road to link Western Avenue and Agege Motor road at Ojuelegba roundabout.
Besides, he said that vehicles from Surulere, Alhaji Masha and Shitta area approaching Lagos Island and Apapa will be diverted to Bode Thomas and Eric Moore to link Eko Bridge•
Opeifa explained that the only parking will be at National Stadium adding that access to pedestrian will be restricted to accredited APC members, accredited observers and accredited media personnel.
He said bus shuttle, and taxis will be available from hotel and airport to the convention venue.
