IKEJA, Lagos, Nigeria – The Lagos State House of Assembly(LAHA) has began the process that will culminate into impeachment of the governor of the state, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode.

Hints that the embattled governor would be impeached came this evening when members accused the governor of committing atrocities bordering on gross misconduct and spending money from a budget that is yet to be laid and approved by LAHA.

More than two-third of the members who spoke on the floor of the house called for his impeachment . Twenty-eight out of the 34 lawmakers called for the impeachment of the governor while six demanded that the governor must resign.

Speaking during the session, Speaker of the house, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa calmed members down noting that there was need for the House to give Ambode one last chance to appear before the House to explain the allegations and infractions levelled against him.

He said the governor has one week to appear before it to explain his own side of the story or face impeachment. Meanwhile he has directed lawmakers to start gathering signatures to affirm their determination to impeach the governor

Besides, the governor the commissioners for Finance; Economic Planning and Budget and the Commissioner for Justice are also required to appear before the house on Monday, February 4, 2019.
