LAGOS, Nigeria – The membership of Labour Party, LP has exceeded the 30 million mark, the party has said. The LP which has been in existence for over one decade boomed when former governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi joined the party to pursue his presidential ambition.
Labour party was not given any chance by the two major, parties, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and the All Progressive Congress, APC.
Even prominent chieftain of the party and former governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai downgraded membership of the party when some of the members went online and started show of force to indicate massive followership for Peter Obi.
He replied the Obidient movement as comprising just four people tweeting from just one corner of the room and later that the membership were only online until the Obidient movement trooped out into the streets.
He even went a step further that the movement cannot see 100 people in their show of strength across the federation in Kaduna.
He was deflated when hundreds turned out enmass to show support for the party and Peter Obi. Again, some members of El-Rufai party including the PDP said the followership has no root in the villages and interiors but the party was vindicated on election day when millions of Nigerians turned out to vote for the party.
But what followed was massive mutilation of results, subtraction of LP votes and adding same to the prominent parties, observers have said.
Peter Obi believes he won the election and is currently at the Presidential Election Tribunal, PET, where he has frontloaded documents that seems to indict that the electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC was too hasty.
Chairman of INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu must be very embarrassed by the volume of evidence challenging his declaration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as winner of the election.
