September 28, 2014 – President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday called on Nigerians to continue to praise the military stressing that they have made progress in the fight against the radical Islamic sect, Boko Haram despite sabotage within the rank and file.

The President who was speaking at a special service preparatory to celebration of the 54th independent anniversary said there are certain things that ought not to be said at a time like this and called on Nigerians to continue to support the military adding that they will triumph with support from Nigerians.

The President also attributed inability to totally defeat the insurgents to discordant tunes among Nigerians and politicization of insurgents.

According to him, Nigeria was able to surmount Ebola Virus Disease because there was unity in approach to the disease irrespective of different political parties between affected states and the Federal Government.

“Sawyer brought Ebola to Lagos, Lagos was opposition, it was in Port Harcourt, and Rivers was opposition from the ruling party at the federal level, but because we spoke with one voice, we were able to surmount the problem”, he said, and called on Nigerian to be united in the fight against insurgents.
