Saudi journalist, Jamal Kashoggi, disappeared after entering Saudi Arabia consular office in Instanbul

ISTANBUL, Turkey – The government of Saudi Arabia has said it is open for cooperation on investigation of circumstances surrounding the disapperance of Saudi journalist, Jamal Kashoggi from its consular office in Turkey.




The Turkish securities have said that the journalist, an avid critic of the Crown Prince who was invited to the Saudi consular office in Instanbul on October 2, 2018 by the authority and was killed two hours after arriving the mission and his body dismembered. Turkey has released video footing of Jamal Kashoggi entering the consular office.

But authorities in Saudi Arabia have denied killing him but that Jamal Kashoggi entered the office and exited through the back door. But there is not video footing to that effect.

But in a statement, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Hami Aksoy said that although “consular premises are inviolable according to the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, the receiving state can conduct an examination in these premises with the consent of the head of the diplomatic mission”, adding that the Saudi authorities have notified that they are open to cooperation in this regard and that the examination can be conducted in their consular buildings in Istanbul.

He added that within the framework of the investigation, an examination will be conducted in the said consular buildings.

The developments concerning the fate of Saudi citizen and journalist Mr. Jamal Khashoggi have been closely followed by our judicial, security and intelligence authorities from the outset. The investigation launched by our relevant authorities to determine his fate has been continuing extensively.

Although consular premises are inviolable according to the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, the receiving state can conduct an examination in these premises with the consent of the head of the diplomatic mission. The Saudi authorities have notified that they are open to cooperation in this regard and that the examination can be conducted in their consular buildings in Istanbul.

Within the framework of the investigation, an examination will be conducted in the said consular buildings.
