BEIRUT – There are indications that the Israeli Defence Forces, IDF is now preparing for a ground offensive in Lebanon.
This emerged following reports that the Israel Defence Forces IDF dropped leaflets ordering the evacuation of the Al-Wazzani area in Southern Lebanon.
Already there is panic among residents with many making preparation to leave the area.
Reacting to the development, Deputy Secretary-General of the Lebanese militant organisation, Hezbollah, Sheikh Naim Qassem which has been firing rockets into Israel in support of the Palestinian people said it has no plan to initiate any large scale war but that it is ready to confront Israel if it initiates it.
“We do not have a plan to initiate a [large-scale] war because we do not find it useful, but if Israel launches a war we will confront it, and the losses will be huge for us and for them as well”, he said.
He said there is no way for the settlers to return to the north except by stopping the war on Gaza.
“The war increases the displacement of settlers and increases the number of empty settlements.
” Therefore, think carefully and make your decision.
“We are ready and prepared for any possibility”, Hezbollah said.
Meanwhile, the IDF has admitted that this decision was made independently by a regional commander without any coordination with other divisions.
