GAZA, Palestine – The Israeli Defence Forces, IDF has identified the three soldiers killed in ambush by Hamas in the Northern Gaza Strip on Monday.
The affected soldiers according to IDF are Staff Sgt. Lior Steinberg, 20, Staff Sgt. Ofek Barhana, 20, and Staff Sgt. Omer Van Gelder, 22, all from the 9th Battalion of the ‘Givati’ Brigade.
The IDF said two other soldiers were injured in the same incident.
The IDF noted that in recent weeks, the brigade’s troops have eliminated numerous terrorists, located and dismantled weapons hidden inside residential buildings, and dismantled terror infrastructure both above and below ground, including tunnel shafts and underground terror tunnel routes.
“During one of the recent activities, the troops identified several terrorists operating in the area.
“The troops directed an Israeli Air Force aircraft, which eliminated the terrorists”, the IDF said.
According to the IDF, the Givati Brigade’s troops continue to operate in the Gaza Strip in order to protect the civilians of the State of Israel.
