A leading Islamic scholar, Sheik Alhaji Muyideen Ajani Bello has accused Nigerian politicians of promoting terrorism and serving selfish interest instead of the masses.

The frontline preacher accused the Nigerian leaders of deceiving the people, adding that terrorism is the punishment for our bad attitude as a people.

Speaking as the Guest lecturer at the 5th Annual Iftar and Ramadan Public Lecture organized by Hon. Moshood Oshun of the Lagos State House of Assembly at Lagos City College, Yaba with the theme; “Terrorism: Islamic Perspective” recently, the religious leader said that there is no iota of truth in the nation.

“People now do whatever they like, some politicians are the real terrorists, they rule the people the way they like. There is no truth in them, they worship money, the leaders and the followers are corrupt. It didn’t start today and it will not change if we don’t tell ourselves the truth. We all do what we like and even some religious leaders have compromised because of money. They tell the leaders what they want to hear and not what they should tell them.”

Sheik Bello, who is known for his bluntness as a preacher, maintained that whoever fails to tell the truth is a terrorist, and that we all live with terrorists in our various homes.

He disclosed that Prophet Muhammed was also a president in his own way, and that we should all follow his footsteps as he led the people with the fear of God.

“God says he owns all resources in the country and in the world. I don’t believe we have any special terrorists in the country. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), set up by the government has not been prosecuting people in recent times, those that were arrested for fraud were not even prosecuted, we are all deceiving ourselves,” he stated.

The sponsor of the event, Hon. Moshood Oshun, who is representing Lagos Mainland Constituency II in the Assembly, disclosed that the annual event is organized to further educate the people on important issues during Ramadan.

He said that the feedback has been positive as people look forward to the event every year, which he said is the reason they attend the programme in large number.

“The people enjoy it and they come around every year. Ramadan is not about good or bad, you don’t have to wait for Ramadan before you do what is good. For me, we should all do what is good at all times. People are enjoying the programme and it has been a means of educating them every year. The most important thing is for us as individuals to love each other,” he said.

Present at the occasion were some members of the LSHA including Hon. Mufutau Egberongbe of Apapa Constituency 1, Hon. Ramottalahi Akinlola-Hassan, Amuwo Odofin II, Chairman of Yaba Local Council Development Area, Hon. Jide Jimoh, Fuji Music superstar, Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, Muslim clerics, politicians and residents of the area.
