The state of River Denro, a channel linking the Ogun River: Residents helping one another to cross the high water current to avoid being swept away

DENRO, Ogun, Nigeria – Prince Dapo Abiodun, the governor of Ogun State, re-elected for a second term in  the March 2023  governorship and houses of assembly election must act fast as a prince to save the lives of his subjects in Denro, who will soon be swept away by  the high water current that has resulted from an abandoned project, which should be the top priority in the state at this moment.

For years, the people of Denro have been on bended knees, writing and  begging governments who have made promises to construct the road before and during elections only to dash their high hopes when elections are gone.

However, there seems to be light in a very dark tunnel, when the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led government of Ogun State listened to the cry of the people and commenced construction of the road, with bridge that would link Ojodu, Lagos with Denro in Ogun State and open up the axis to rapid development.

Construction of the road began from the axis of Adigboluja Police Station in the past two years with the preparation of drainage channels that would empty into the Ogun River that separates Ogun State from Lagos, with provision to extend the road to Ishasi area down to Akute.

The state government went a step further to lay the concrete foundation for the bridge to ease the perennial suffering of the people who have in previous years resulted to crossing over Ogun River each time there is massive rain or massive outflow from the Oyo Damn with canoes or makeshift paedestrian bridge which often comes at a cost to the residents.

But several months after the foundation was laid, the progress  has been at a snail speed, and with the rain around the corner, it appears residents would have to brace up for a tougher challenge, this time at the risk of their lives as the concreate foundation for the bridge creates a barrier that  on access engenders a very high current as the water forces its way through, even with the water level still tolerable.

Many residents crossing fear for their lives as they queue behind one another, praying for God’s guidance to see them through the terrific current as they hold hands as you would have it in the popular ‘tug of war‘ championship to avoid been swept away.

They are calling on the government to mobilise engineers back to site and speed up construction of the bridge before the heavy rains begin to save the lives of residents who voted massively for him.
