September 30, 2015 – President Muhammadu Buhari has said that he will not appoint Minister for Petroleum Resources as Nigerians await list of his ministerial nominees.
The President who was addressing Journalists at the sideline of the United Nations in New York said that he will be in charge of the ministry but that he will only appoint a Minister of State for Petroleum Resources.
He explained that he took the step as part of effort to clear the mess in the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, adding that the first step has already been taken through the appointment of new Group Managing Director for the Nigerian National Petroleum Resources in the person of Kachikwu Ibe.
Already the new GMD has swung into action by sacking some sectional heads in key departments. He also unbundled the corporation with a pledge to return it to profit making.
President Buhari is expected to send list of his ministers to the Senate today being the last day of September for screening.
He had promised that names of his ministerial nominees would be made known in September. Buhari assumed office in May 29, 2015. Till date he has only appointed members of his kitchen cabinet.
