February 10, 2015 – The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has said that he will build 5,000 inner roads in Lagos if he is elected governor of the state.

“We would do an operation called Operation 20:20:57. For every year, each local government will commit 20 roads and 20 street lights, when we are able to do that, we would provide you with 1140 roads. When we do that for four years, that’s almost 5000 new roads.

” We are going to light up our streets, we would light up Lagos to ensure comfort for everyone. We would provide additional buses, even before the end of this administration, we are going to get more buses for all our roads. The roads where BRT does not ply now, we would make sure that buses ply them,” he said.

Ambode who was speaking at a rally in Ejigbo, Lagos said he will repair 20 roads in each of the Local Governments and Local Council Developments in Lagos.

The APC candidate who also promised to light up all the streets and bring back night business said he will make the state preferred tourism destination in Africa.

“I want to promise all of you, we are on this Ejigbo play ground, we are going to turn it into a stadium. You know I have always told you, I am ready to improve on anything that the present governor does not finish, wherever he stops, I am going to continue with it.

“I have said it, I am going to integrate tourism, hospitality, entertainment and sports together to create more jobs for all our youths. We have said it, we are looking for more jobs for all our young ones, we would also create an employment trust fund, which would allow you to have access to free capital so that you can do all the things that you have always learnt to do.

“In addition to that, we would create a small credit guarantee scheme for all our small businesses and all our entrepreneurs. What does that do for all of us, it would allow our mothers, our fathers and our young ones to do whatever it is they decide to do on their own.”

Ambode added that when they make more profit, they would employ more people, saying the initiative would take more people off the street.

“If we take more people off the street, it would improve on the provision of the infrastructure. It is more about roads in this neighborhood. We are going to do more roads, like I have said we have over 6000 roads that belong to the local governments and about 3000 that belongs to the state government.
