February 10, 2015 – Nigerien parliament has approved a proposal to deploy more than 3,000 troops now on the ground in Diffa as part effort to make up the 7,800 troops for the multinational troops currently battling Boko Haram insurgents in Nigeria.

Niger’s parliament gave the approval just as acclaimed leader of the Islamic sect, Abubakar Shekau vowed in a new video that he will defeat the multinational force.

Niger, Cameroon, Chad, Benin and Nigeria agreed at the weekend to send a joint force of 7,800 troops to battle Boko Haram in Nigeria.

The sect has killed thousands and kidnapped several hundreds in a desperate bid to set up an Islamic caliphate.

In Nigeria, security chiefs have put pressure on Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) to shift elections initially scheduled for February 14 and 28 to March 28 and April 11 to enable them destroy all the camps operated by Boko Haram flush them out in a period of six weeks.
