CARIBBEAN – SAVAGE Hurricane Melissa has unleashed a wave of ‘widespread devastation’ across the Caribbean, leaving a trail of bodies and total structural ruin in its wake, the UN chief has revealed.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres confirmed the disaster has claimed lives as the monster storm—one of the most powerful Atlantic hurricanes EVER recorded—smashes its way through the sun-kissed islands.

The UN boss admitted he was ‘gravely concerned’ about the massive toll on life and property as Melissa, at one point a terrifying Category 5, brought catastrophic wind and biblical flooding.

Mr Guterres sent his ‘heartfelt condolences to the families of those who have lost their lives’ after the storm slammed into nations like Jamaica, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic.

Though the full scale of the tragedy is yet to be revealed, reports indicate the killer hurricane has already left multiple casualties across the region.

The slow-moving storm has battered vulnerable communities, sparking landslides, ripping the roofs off hospitals, and turning roads into rivers of death.

Jamaica, hit by the strongest hurricane in its recorded history, has been declared a disaster area as the country is left drowning under a deluge of water and wreckage.

The UN chief vowed to send immediate help, confirming the international body is ‘working hand in hand with authorities’ to assess the damage and rush in aid.

They are scrambling to assist the countless victims and are preparing for further devastation in areas still in Melissa’s brutal path.

“The UN is working hand in hand with authorities and humanitarian partners across the region to assist those impacted,” a spokesperson confirmed.

The UN’s pledge comes as communities are left isolated, struggling for survival against the worst of Mother Nature’s fury
