Guardians of the Galaxy Displaces Lucy with $94 Million

August 3, 2014 – Sales at the US Box Office peaked at the weekend with Guardian of the Galaxy displacing Lucy after returning $94 million to Buena Vista after touring 4,080 cinema houses in the US to emerge as the most patronized movie at the weekend.

Lucy, which was number one penultimate weekend, was pushed to number two when sales fell to $18.283 million in 3,202 film viewing centres were it was exhibited in the US.

Get on Up, a new film put together by Universal Studios made it to the third position after making $14.031 million from 2,468 cinemas in the US.

At number 4 is Hercules (2014) put together by Paramount Pictures. Hercules made $10.7 million from 3,595 centres where it was featured in the US.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes which was number 3 penultimate week was pushed to number 5 at the weekend when it returned $8.7 million to Fox Pictures after putting up a show in 3,283 cinema outfits in the US.

Another new film that made it into top 50 films was Calvary. It could however not hit the million dollar mark. It only returned $72, 800 but the money was good enough for the film to break even.
