LAGOS, Nigeria – Chairman of Governors Forum and Governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari has slammed organised labour, describing them as people who are simply jealous.
The governor who spoke through Head of Media, in the Governors Forum, Abdulrazaque Bello-Bakindo in reaction to criticism that trail his declaration that it was not a big deal for governors to fly around in chartered jets said those criticising his comments on the issue are simply jealous.
Bello-Bakindo who spoke on Facts File on Raypower 100.5 FM lampooned labour and the civil societies for criticism Yari, who has said the governors might be forced to downsize workforce if forced to pay a minimum wage of N30,000 said those who criticised Yari for flying around in chartered jets are simply jealous.
Recalled that not too long ago, Governor Yari returned from Hajj aboard a chartered jet that cost about $10,000 per hour, and reportedly said it was no big deal for governors to fly around with chartered jets while addressing state house correspondents in Abuja on Wednesday.
Justifying Yari’s position on chartered private jets, Abdulrazaque Bello-Bakindo said some of the governors were already well-to-do before they became governors and that because they have to be in different places in a day, makes it appropriate for them to go about with chartered private jets.
He said governors have no money to pay the minimum wage labour has accepted.
” The money governors have to share was N800 billion but today it has dropped to less than N600 billion”, he said.
Meanwhile labour has given government up to December to pay the new minimum wage yet to be signed and sent to the National Assembly for appropriation.
