YENEGOA, Bayelsa, Nigeria – The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Bayelsa State, Francis Ottah Agbo, said Governor Henry Seriake Dickson has placed the state on the path of peace, prosperity and irreversible development. According to him, the Governor’s  achievements in all sectors, enthronement of transparent regime and freedom for the opposition to ventilate alternative views as well as his deep views on national issues have marked him out as the most celebrated Governor in the country.

While thanking his boss for the opportunity to serve in Bayelsa State, Agbo described Dickson as a detribalized Nigerian, who does not discriminate, but believes that, every citizen of the country should be given a space to express him or herself in any part of the Nation, irrespective of ethnic, religious or regional affiliations.

Agbo stated this, when the Bayelsa State Chapter of the University of Maiduguri Alumni Association recently paid him a courtesy call in Government House, Yenagoa. Ottah-Agbo, who described his appointment as Governor’s Spokesman as unusual in Bayelsa State expressed delight in formally meeting members of the association, who he noted have kept the flag of the institution flying high.

The CPS explained that, the visit was long overdue, as he had wanted to meet with the association, since his appointment in 2017, assuring that, he would henceforth participate fully in all the activities of the association, as he himself is a social crusader dedicated to the ideals of the association.

He described UNIMAID as a great institution and melting point for all ethnic nationalities, adding that just like UNIMAID,  Governor Dickson’s Restoration Government is a conglomeration of a mini Nigeria. Agbo also urged them to be volunteers of the Restoration Government, by taking the message of the governors’ good works to their constituencies.

According to him, projects like the Bayelsa International Airport, which is scheduled for inauguration next month, is to take the state to the world as well as bring the world to the State, thereby boosting the economic fortunes of the only homogenous Ijaw state.  He said when completed and put to use, the airport will enable Bayelsa to play a more active role in the Gulf of Guinea, create jobs, boost tourism and add to the political economy of the state.

His words: “Governor Dickson is among few Nigerians who believe very clearly that a Nigerian is a Nigerian irrespective of tribe or state of origin and that was the spirit at the University of Maiduguri before Boko Haram ravaged Borno State.
Every human being is your brother or sister, once you strike the right cord with the person you can tolerate and work with the person. He/she does not necessarily have to be your kinsman or relative before you accept him to work with you. ”

“The Governor has shown me love, the people of this state have shown me love and I don’t take it lightly. Once somebody is good to you, try and reciprocate that same gesture without minding if that person is from the same ethnic stock as you”

“You are here in Bayelsa state, you must have seen the good works of the governor, who is confronting a difficult terrain and has taken the state from the back waters . In the next one month, you have an airport in this state with flights coming and going
out of Bayelsa. Places that were hitherto difficult to construct bridges, roads have been connected, communities that never saw vehicles like Aleibiri now see the influx of vehicles, these are the mark and antecedents of the governor”

Earlier, Chairman of the state chapter of University of Maiduguri Alumni Association, Dr. Ikuli Ibebieru, who said the association has been in existence in the state for about seven years, explained that, the visit was to intimate the CPS of the existence of the body and its activities.

Ikuli further explained that, the association had undertaken sensitization exercises, render assistance to motherless homes, provision of materials to Internally Displaced Persons, IDP’s in Borno State, with plans to enlighten school children on the dangers of drug abuse.

He stressed that, despite the security challenges at the University of Maiduguri, the institution remains a platform for students from the different parts of the country to excel, while appealing for synergy with the Chief Press Secretary on ways of projecting the image of the institution.
