WASHINGTON – Geoffrey Hinton, the godfather of Artificial Intelligence, AI, revered as the wizard behind AI revolution at Google has resigned.
He said he resigned not because he wants to criticize Google as alleged in some media establishment.
Hinton, who gave the explanation on his social media handle, said he dropped the job as a result of the dangerous dimension that is becoming of AI.
Geoffrey Hinton, who said he has been under pressure to produce AI that portends danger for for the human race. He alluded to what has been published on New York Times, to the effect that he left Google so that he can criticize the outfit.
According to him, “ Actually, I left so that I could talk about the dangers of AI without considering how this impacts Google”, he said, adding that Google has acted responsibly.
In March earlier in the year, Geoffrey Hinton wrote that adaptation for parenting and childhood have co-evolved for millions of generations to ensure some alignment and cooperation between generations but that super intelligent systems have none of these adaptations and that there is no reason to expect them to behave like sweet precocious children.
