November 9, 2015 – The Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets lived up to expectation at the FIFA Under 17 World Cup beating Mali 2:0 to win the trophy back to back.
The goals came in the second half of the game after a barren draw by half time. Efforts by the
Golden Eaglets however paid off after much pressure on the defence line of Mali. But it was Nigeria’s goal champion who is the leading scorer in the tournament, Osimhen that took Nigeria in the lead in 56th minutes. Bamgboye made it 2:0 three minutes later.
Mali almost pulled one goal back in the 77th minutes but brilliant defence from the Nigerian lad kept the score line at 2:0. The Malians pilled up pressure on the Nigerian defence but it yielded not fruit.
Chukwueze was brought down in the 80th minutes and was replaced by Orji Okonkwo. Bamgboye was brought down in the 82 minutes . Nigeria got free kick in the 84 th minutes near Mali corner kick spot but was well defended by the Malians.
Mali got corner kick against Nigeria in the 87th minutes but a header by Dante hit the bar, leaving the score line at 2:0. Funsho Bamgboye was replaced by Sunday Alimi in the 89th minutes.
Earlier, Belgium defeated Mexico 3:2 to win the bronze medal.
